Love is what I crave
From those around me.
Still, what I see is politics,
Yours and mine,
An eye for an eye.
Give back to me
Everything I do for thee.
Is this Love?
I think not—
For I have a yellow mongrel dog named Spanky;
orphaned by man as a pup,
cast out on a road to nowhere.
given no earthly value by man,
and no thought of consequence.
I found him,
or did he find me?
a consequence of chance,
of light,
and of fate.
He is, perhaps, the best friend
that I have known;
undying, unknowing (?) devotion
He casts on me.
He requests and craves only love…
and the occasional bowl of kibble.
But I believe,
if I could not provide a nibble,
He would stay,
Until his dying day;
True love,
Spanky…
And Me.
