It was the morning of a thick August heat day
and I was facing the mirror of Middle Age Consternation.

The radio tells me Dustin Hoffman is 47;
it reminds me the youngest Beatle just turned 39.

This makes me tired.

I turn off the radio and look deep in the mirror
I’m not too young, not too old,
     but not just right either.

I no longer possess the warm untested ideals of youth,
nor the looking back resignation  of colder years.
The mirror reflects the harsh reality of
middle age Consternation.

But wait!

Stripped of adolescent illusions and
still clear of myopic memories,
I have the true power to focus in
And do. . .

before the looking back time begins.
